It is by Von A. Petermann (Augustus Petermann) as stated in the title block and has a date of 1876 printed in the left margin, from an 1876 edition of Stieler's Hand Atlas, published in Gotha by Justus Perthes. The publisher is stated in the bottom center, the title of the atlas is in the upper right corner and the printing details in the bottom left margin. It is certainly one of the more accurate maps of the period by the renown German cartographer, Augustus Petermann, who was also responsible for the long running Geographische Mittelungen that first accurately charted unknown regions of the world from Africa to the Arctic. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed being sold as a single map as seen in the first pic. Overall, a nicely preserved antique map that would frame up well! Size: The map image measures approximately 13 by 16 (33x40cm) inches on a 15 1/4 by 18 3/4" (39x47cm) page as seen in the pic with a wide margin all around for framing as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Good condition with a centerfold as issued, printed on a heavy paper. There is tonal ageing, some minor browning and hint of a damp stain on the edges, otherwise it is very clean with a nice antique appearance that would frame up well, see the pics for more on condition.
