Description: Here's a 3.75" x 6.5" blank backed card which shows that even a sitting U.S. president must earn the right to his party's nomination if they want to get re-elected. Back in 1932, Maryland U.S. Senator, Joseph France, actually competed against President Herbert Hoover for the republican nomination as seen on this Maryland item, referred to as a ballot card. The primary was held on May 2, and France managed to get about 37% of the vote. But since it was his home state, that's no wonder. Linwood Clark and Wallace Williams were also vying for that state's U.S. senate GOP nomination, with Williams losing to Maryland's incumbent democrat senator, Millard Tydings, in the general election.
