A stunning and rare issue.*TOKEN BACKGROUND:Token used by The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce in Breckenridge, Colorado circa 1965 “NOT” for 50¢ in trade at the “The Kingdom of Breckenridge: ULLR Winter Carnival.” In 1963, the tokens were good for 50¢ in trade but this violated the law and unknown advocates pushed to see the it fulfilled. Subsequently, the majority of surviving 1963 examples have a counterstrike over 50¢ on the reverse that says “souvenir.” In 1964 and onward, the tokens were changed to “Not Good for 50¢,” even though that was their exact trade value.—————Pritchard estimates just ~1 example is known to exist; if that is true, the only surviving specimen is in this collection. Further indication of rarity is exhibited by the fact that this issue is “not” listed in the CMT (Colorado Merchant Token) guide. A rare issue in all grades. — Of the 8 issues struck by the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce (1963-1967 & 1978) - (several varieties exist within certain years), all exhibit exceptional rarity.
