Description: ABOUT THIS BOX This is an amazing early-to-mid-century Thorens music box from Switzerland. The hardwood box features the iconic inlaid shield. The wood shows a lot of character thanks to its age. The aged beauty of the wood box looks great with the brass movement. The tunes played are from the 1800’s and are as classic as the box itself. Lifting the lid reveals an outstanding, Swiss Thorens 4/50 musical movement. The movement is clean with typical age-related patina, and it looks great. The box winds up smoothly and works precisely. It switches between the songs effortlessly. These tunes are European classics from the 1800’s and are sure to bring you joy: Menuet de Händel Figaro's Hochzeit Impromptu en la majeur Deutscher Tanz OP 33 No. 4 CONDITION The wood box is in typical condition for a box this age. The wood has been cleaned and conditioned, but is still a bit dry. Notably, there are several areas with veneer loss along the bottom edges. The box opens and closes perfectly. Please see the pictures for the issues — and the beauty of this piece. The music movement was inspected, lightly cleaned and properly lubricated. The sound quality is very good and it is quite loud. These older shield boxes amplify the music very well. There are only very light instances of resonance (buzzes/squawks) that can occur in vintage boxes.
