Description: Signature Shipping With Insurance by USPS Priority Signature Mail, or UPS or FedEx, whichever is cheaper and faster. Up for auction are FENTON # 1522 IVORY CREST 10 ½ IN. HAND CRIMPED & HAND RUFFLED BOWL 1940-1941 IN ABSOLUTELY PERFECT CONDITION. Although this bowl is NOT marked, I can guarantee that it is a true Fenton Product. Only Fenton made the "Crest Line" which trims all of its different colored glass with a clear crystal band of glass on its outside edge, and this bowl is also listed in all of the books describing Fenton Glass. As I said, this Ivory Crest was made for only 2 years from 1940 to 1941 when all production of Ivory Glass Stopped, making this bowl between 83 and 84 years old. This is an extremely rare bowl in the "Crest Line", for a number of reasons as follows: First, Fenton used a rare Uranium Oxide to achieve its gorgeous cream-colored custard Ivory glass, and Fenton did not have a lot of Uranium Oxide on hand. Secondly, since this was the beginning of World War 2, Fenton couldn't get any more because of the war effort, our government highly restricted its use for civilian purposes. Thirdly, Fenton made the conscious decision to use what little Uranium Oxide that they had on hand for their production of Topaz Opalescent Glass so actually you could say that the Fenton Ivory Cress Glass "became a casualty of war". This bowl was one of the largest Fenton made in Ivory Crest, measuring between 10 and 10 ½ Inches across, about 3 ½ Inches high, and sits on a round base of 3 ½ Inches, and weighs about 2 Pounds, as can be seen in the photographs. The reason why the crimping measurements vary is because all Fenton Glassware was hand crimped and so each was a slightly different height or length than the others around it. The bowl was also hand/mouth blown into a three part mold. Although it was purchased from an old estate sale on Long Island and was pre-owned, it is in absolutely perfect condition. I found the bowl sitting on a top shelf inside a closed living room cabinet, where they probably sat for many years because the only scratches are on the bottom, where scratches would normally expected to be found with a bowl commensurate with it age. I took the last 3 pictures using my UV light, and you can absolutely see how fantastically it glows from the Uranium Salts used in making this Ivory Crest Bowl. My only regret is that I wish I had more bowls because it is that beautiful. I have been collecting unusual vintage objects for many years, and always try to describe the item as best as I can. There are absolutely no flaws of any kind that I can see anywhere on any of the glassware. There are no chips, cracks, fleabites, scratches, stains, cloudiness, or repairs. They come from a smoke-free home. I only accept PayPal, and never charge extra for packaging and handling.
