It depicts Dick Winters and other members of Easy Company of the 101st Airborne preparing for D-Day. This is the 8 signature MAIN EDITION. ALL EDITIONS of this magnificent print are long SOLD OUT at the publisher and are rarely available on the secondary market. Don't miss this rare opportunity! At 2030 hours on the night of 5 June 1944, under an overcast sky, the 139 men of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne, United States Army, left their encampment at Uppottery Airfield in England, and marched for the C-47s that would carry them to France, and open the invasion of Europe. The C-47s of the 439th Troop Carrier Group, 50th Troop Carrier Wing were capable of hauling over three tons of cargo, or 18 fully loaded paratroopers. One of Easy Company's most capable officers and a leader of the company since its formation in Toccoa, Georgia was 1st Lieutenant Richard Winters, from the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. He had enlisted in the Army after college, volunteered for the paratroopers, and had risen to become the company's second ranking officer. At 26 years of age, Winters commanded the company's 1st Platoon. Beautifully depicted here in John Shaw's "WE WERE A BAND OF BROTHERS" is an epic moment in time with Winters standing bareheaded in the center of his platoon, holding a letter from Colonel Robert Sink, which states in part "tonight is the Night of Nights." At 2225 hours the paratroopers climbed aboard, and at 2313, they were airborne. 13,000 paratroopers were carried to France that night, in 821 aircraft. Although chaos erupted, it was as confusing for the Germans as for the jumpers. Only 21 C-47s were lost to enemy fire, but the Company Commander Meehan was killed in a C-47 that went down, so on D-Day Winters assumed command of Easy Company, and they would spend the next twenty-three days in the combat zone. Dick Winters led the men of Easy Company across Europe until the end of the War. This is the same group of men who were the subject of Stephen Ambrose's bestselling book "Band of Brothers" and the ten-part HBO Golden Globe Award-winning series "Band of Brothers" produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. This print beautifully illustrates the drama and heroism of this. The men of Easy Company went on to create one of the greatest records of courage and achievement in American military history. In addition to the artist this print was individually signed in pencil by EIGHT of these brave men, most of whom were depicted in both the book and film: Buck Compton "Wild Bill" Guarnere Forrest Guth Ed Joint Clancy Lyall Don Marlarkey Ed Shames Rod Strohl PLEASE NOTE: DICK WINTERS is not one of the signers of this print. This rare and truly unique print is in mint condition, has never been framed and, like all of our prints, has been stored flat. It measures approximately 34½" x 24" and comes with a descriptive Certificate of Authenticity. Due to the popularity of the HBO mini-series, We Were a Band of Brothers, that told the story of these amazing soldiers, millions of Americans admire and respected the men of Easy Company for their service, dedication, and sacrifice. The extraordinary "WE WERE A BAND OF BROTHERS" hanging in your living room, study, or man/woman cave would be the centerpiece of your home. Hanging this print in your office at work would lead to many thoughtful conversations about our greatest generation. Buyer to pay $40.00 toward domestic shipping and insurance.
