The performance of these chopsticks is ordinary. However, what truly stands out is the intricate craftsmanship employed in creating the patterns. ・What is Hakone Yosegi Zaiku? "Hakone" is a place name. "Yosegi" refers to a collection of different types and ages of wood, while "Zaiku" denotes traditional techniques infused with a playful spirit. This technique originated around the 9th century, with the modern style being established about 200 years ago. Different types and ages of wood exhibit varying colors. Please refer to photos 14, 15, and 16 to observe the Yosegi Zaiku process. Initially, various types and ages of wood are combined. Subsequently, the wood is shaved thinly using a plane, and craftsmen employ it as a design element. In essence, the pattern on these chopsticks isn't achieved through painting but through the artful combination of wood. It's worth noting that, both on eBay and Amazon, I've come across numerous items labeled as Yosegi Zaiku that don't genuinely qualify as such. To be frank, the technical brilliance of Yosegi Zaiku is better appreciated on items with a larger surface area, such as plates or boxes, as compared to chopsticks. However, these chopsticks are also authentic Yosegi Zaiku, retaining their genuine and authentic essence. ・What is the meaning of the characters on the sticker on the chopsticks? It means chopsticks of Yosegi Zaiku. ・Chopsticks can last a long time depending on how you handle them.1.After use, wash them with lukewarm water or water and wipe them with a soft cloth. Do not leave them in the water for an extended period. 2.Even if your chopsticks are dishwasher-safe, they will last longer if you wash them by hand. 3.Brushes and polish can cause scratches. 4.Store chopsticks in a place with low humidity and away from direct sunlight.
