Bruno Bernard was the first still photographer to be honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was also one of the few photographers in Hollywood's "Golden Era" to establish his own studios: his landmark Bernard of Hollywood studio on the fabled Sunset Strip, his desert oasis in Palm Springs, and the studio in the penthouse salon of the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. This rare image is taken from their first professional session, The Discovery Series, when Marilyn Monroe was still Norma Jean. This photograph was part of a portfolio Mr. Bernard gave to20th Century-Fox which led to her first screen test and first motion picture contract.
