Description: Every once in a while you will come across one of those beautifully designed piece of industrial equipment from the late 1880s. This is one of those fine examples. This pieces carries both the H&M and Tycos ( top of temp scale) hallmarks. Not sure if it is still operational or not. Hohmann & Maurer was a New York City thermometer maker, founded by Henry Maurer, a Swiss immigrant, and A B Hohmann. Founded around 1885, their trademark was 'H&M'. They were bought by Taylor Instrument in 1896. Taylor continued to use the H&M logo on their thermometers. George Taylor and David Kendall began making thermometers in 1851. By 1853 George was on his own and in 1872 he formed Taylor Brothers with his brother Frank. They morphed into Taylor Instrument Company in 1907 and began using the trade name Tycos in 1908. The Tycos name was used exclusively until 1932, when the Taylor name was used.
