Description: This is a very old antique Taos Pueblo Micaceous pottery jar. The Appraisal could not identify when it was made aside from the 19th or 18th century or even older, and that it would make a great study piece. The Taos formed their clay from decayed pre-Cambrian schist, filled with abundant flecks of mica throughout, which you can see as gold colored flecks on the surface of the clay (see pictures). This jar also exhibits a traditional Taos mending technique where plaster was placed around the center crack (see pictures). The Taos were the last utilitarian Pueblo Pottery makers. Their pottery mostly remained unpainted, unpolished, and decorated, if at all, only with features such as knobs or ribbons. This pottery piece is unsigned and stands 5.5" tall. This item was obtained through a private estate collection of authentic Native American Pottery. This listing does not include the weaved stand
