Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President of the United States. He was in office from 1913 until 1921. He had been the President of Princeton University and the Governor of New Jersey before he ran for President. In the 1912 election the Republicans nominated the incumbent President, William Howard Taft. Failing to gain the Republican nomination, former President Theodore Roosevelt "bolted" the Republicans and formed the "Progressive" party which is better known today as the "Bull Moose" party. And, there was Eugene V. Debs of the then powerful "Socialist" party. So, it was a four-way race. Wilson won handily and became the first southerner, he was born and raised in the south, to be elected since Zachery Taylor in 1848.
