WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia

Description: This original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia manufactured by the America Insignia Company (AMICO) originally belonged to my good family friend and hometown neighbor from Altoona, PA, Mr. Lou Schwemle who served as a Regular U.S. Army Officer with the United States First Army during WW II and later in various U.S. Army Reserves units until his military retirement. Mr. Schwemle never displayed or discussed his service in the U.S. Army. It wasn’t until he learned that I was accepted into the U.S. Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps Program at the Pennsylvania State University in 1978 that he asked to meet with me. Mr. Schwemle had saved and stored all his previous military insignias and memorabilia in his smoke free home since returning to the United States at the conclusion of WW II and from various U.S. Army Reserves units until his retirement from the military. Since none of his three children showed any interest in the Army or any of the other Services, he decided to give me all his Army decorations, medals, ribbons, badges and insignias along with other military memorabilia. Over the next several decades, his military memorabilia were periodically displayed and or stored with all my other military service items in one of our multiple smoke-free homes. I have retained all his military memorabilia for over 40 years; however, since my wife and I relocated from Manassas, VA to Fort Myers, FL we no longer have the space to display or indefinitely store all these items. Subsequently, I have begun posting these items for sale on eBay as well as other military collector sites to continue to recognize Mr. Schwemle’s military service during WW II and while serving in various Army Reserves units. The next item that I am offering to sell is this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia manufactured by AMICO. The front view of this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia is vertically shown in the first attached high-resolution photograph. This Insignia is in good condition for being worn in a war zone in the early 1940’s. The height of this bar is approximately 1 inch high, and its width is approximately 3/8 inches wide. Note: The front side of the insignia has minor patina and some tarnish. There are two sections (one small and one larger) where the finish is extremely worn. The rear view of this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia is vertically shown in the second attached high-resolution photograph. The insignia is displayed with its pin secured within the locked clasp at the top of the bar. The length of the pin is approximately 3/4 of an inch long. The pin on this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia is fully operational and is shown opened in the third attached high-resolution photograph. Note: The pin has a slight bend due to repeated use; however, it does not adversely affect placing it in the clasp. The rear of the insignia contains a manufacturers logo with a shield with the following text: “AMICO”. On top of the shield is what appears to be an Eagle. Below the shield is a banner that extends beyond both sides of the shield. Below the banner contains the following text: “STERLING”. Below STERLING contains the following text: “1/20 10K” as shown in the fourth attached high-resolution photograph. The pin clasp on this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia shown in the fifth attached high-resolution photograph is in good working order. The right side view of this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia is shown horizontally in the sixth attached high-resolution photograph. The left side view of this original vintage WW II U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Rank Pin Back Insignia is shown horizontally in the seventh attached high-resolution photograph.
