Description: WW2 British Royal Air Force Leading Aircraftman Jacket, Wireless Operator Listing another very good example of the RAF Service Dress Uniform jacket for enlisted men. It is made of a heavy weight worsted wool in the standard blue/grey color with blue cotton twill pocket lining and reinforcing. This example has black plastic buttons in place of the brass version. It has late war silk screened single propeller patches for the rank of Leading Aircraftman on both arms and the standard RAF eagle patch on each shoulder which was only worn by men below Warrant Officer rank. It also has his Wireless Operators badge which is worn only on the right sleeve between the rank and the Eagle badge. All badges are in the standard Cambridge blue on a midnight blue field. The label has a date of 1945. You can also make out an inspectors stamp in black ink above the label, but its too faded to be sure of what it reads. This jacket does not have the matching self belt with double prong brass buckle. It is in very good condition with 3 spots of visible moth damage which I've tried to show in the pictures. two near the front bottom of the jacket and one below the elbow on the left arm. There are no stains or rips to the fabric, but some discoloration is evident on the cotton twill pockets and lining. All buttons are present and all stitching is solid. Overall an excellent late war example of an airman's uniform. Perfect for a RAF or British WW2 collection. Please check my other auctions for items of interest.
